Dr. Jacob Bukoski is an Assistant Professor and the Director of the Forests and Climate Change graduate certificate at Oregon State University's Department of Forest Ecosystems & Society. His research broadly focuses on the conservation, management, and restoration of global forests. Prior to OSU, he was a postdoctoral associate at Conservation International's Moore Center for Science. He completed his Ph.D. at UC Berkeley. Jacob is also a Science Advisor at Carbon Direct.

Dr. Hayley Peter-Contesse is a Postdoctoral Scholar in OSU’s Department of Forest Ecosystems and Society. Hayley previously worked as a Junior Researcher at University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and earned her PhD in Soil Science and GIS from OSU. She uses GIS, remote sensing, and machine learning to study and map ecosystem carbon cycling in temperate and tropical systems. Hayley is currently helping lead a number of studies related to wildfire impacts on forest carbon cycling at the H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest.

Justin Coughlin is a Ph.D. student in Forest Ecosystems and Society, researching the intersection of forest carbon dynamics, conservation funding, and policy mechanisms. Prior to his doctoral studies, he spent over a decade working at federal agencies, nonprofits, and applied research consulting firms. He received his B.S. in Environmental Geology and M.S. in Environmental Science from the University of Pittsburgh.

Iris Ford is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Forest Ecosystems and Society. She recently completed her bachelor's in Natural Resources Education at Oregon State University and has since spent time involved in various soil carbon and forest decomposition research projects at the H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest. Her interests going forward largely surround Oregon's coastal wetlands, focusing primarily on the ecological significance and historical/current extent of Sitka spruce swamps.

Jamie McMurray is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Forest Ecosystems and Society. She holds double degrees in Business Administration and Sustainability from Oregon State University. Her interests center on sustainable business, biodiversity, and climate governance, with a focus on how organizations respond to environmental issues and climate policy. Her Master's thesis research is focused on how boundary spanning organizations make sense of an evolving and contested carbon market. Jamie is co-advised by Dr. Rajat Panwar.

Lynn Riley is Lead Scientist for the American Forest Foundation and is concurrently pursuing her Master's of Natural Resources at OSU. Her research is exploring the impacts of albedo on reforestation projects on the Voluntary Carbon Market and dynamic baselining effects on Improved Forest Management projects. Lynn has worked on Natural Climate Solutions and improving forest carbon accounting since 2019, and is interested in connecting science with landowner practicality. She holds a BA in Geography from Virginia Tech.

Raina Chinitz is a Master of Science student in Forest Ecosystems and Society at OSU. Raina earned her undergraduate degree in Geology and English from Amherst College and has since worked with multiple organizations leading conservation and community development projects in the Ecuadorian Amazon and Tropical Andes. Her research interests include tropical ecology, interdisciplinary conservation strategies, environmental justice, and sustainable development in Latin America. Raina is co-advised by Dr. Florencia Pech-Cardenas.

Tri Nam Huynh is a Master's student at Nong Lam University in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, and was a visiting summer intern through the Branching Borders program at OSU. Tri stayed for two months at Corvallis, where he helped Jacob and Prof. Heesung Woo analyze a terrestrial LiDAR scan dataset of mangrove forest structure in the Can Gio Biosphere Reserve downstream of Ho Chi Minh City. Tri has returned to Vietnam to finish his Master's degree, but continue to collaborate with Jacob & Heesung.

Bruno Bianchini is a Nature Economist focused on the financial and economic assessment of nature-based restoration. He recently completed his Master's in Sustainability at Harvard University, with a thesis applying cost-benefit analysis to large-scale flooded forest restoration at Tonlé Sap, Cambodia. Before this, Bruno spent 13 years at Google leading commercial partnerships across the Middle East, Africa, and Turkey. He holds an MSc in Business Administration and Corporate Finance from Università Bocconi and is interested in what it takes to make restoration investable at scale.

Brenda Schuster has 25+ years of experience in sustainable development across Africa and Asia. She is Director of Strategy and Programs at WildLandscapes International. Brenda holds an MA in International Studies from the University of Washington and completed her Master of Natural Resources at OSU. Her research focused on carbon accounting using remote sensing products and dynamic baselining approaches in dryland forests of Kenya.

Sebastian Hjelström was a visiting summer intern through the Branching Border's international internship program at OSU's College of Forestry. He spent two months at OSU, where he collaborated with our research group on data analyses of wildfire effects on forest structure and emisisons. Sebastian received a competitive fellowship to attend the University of British Columbia and receive his Master's of Forestry shortly after his internship. Sebastian has since returned home to Sweden where he is now working in the forestry sector.
